Canmore is a bit quieter and more relaxed, offering a different experience from the busy streets of Banff. Located 20 minutes southeast of Banff, it’s directionally closer to Calgary, which can make your trip from the airport quicker. Canmore is also near the Kananaskis region, known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities. Despite being smaller, Canmore has plenty of dining and grocery options, providing all the essentials without the crowds. Getting from Canmore to Banff
Traveling from Canmore to Banff is a breeze, making it a top reason to consider staying in this charming town. The journey is straightforward and scenic. As we said earlier, you should already have a car, so the distance does not add car rental costs to your trip. The distance between Canmore and Banff is a 20-minute drive, and you’ll be treated to stunning mountain views the entire way. It’s a free preview of the beauty that awaits you in Banff National Park.
If you’re driving, you’ll follow the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) straight into Banff. There’s no need to worry about complicated routes or getting lost—just follow the signs, and you’ll be there before you know it and can continue on to Banff National Park if you choose not to go into the town of Banff. Keep in mind you will need a Banff National Park Pass (many condos may share their pass with you).
For those who prefer not to drive, Roam Transit offers a convenient and affordable option. The bus runs regularly between Canmore and Banff and at just $6 for a one-way ticket. The bus ride provides the same jaw-dropping views as driving, without the hassle of navigating or parking.
Getting from Banff to Canmore
Once you’ve soaked in all the beauty and excitement of Banff, it’s time to head back to Canmore. The journey is just as easy—just in reverse. If you’re driving, you’ll retrace your steps along the Trans-Canada Highway.
If you opted for the Roam Transit on your way to Banff, you’re in luck—getting back is just as simple. Hop on the bus in Banff, and in no time, you’ll be back in Canmore.
