Effortless Guide to 2 Days in Paris
2 days in Paris? Absolutely! While you could easily spend more time in this iconic city, two days are perfect to dive into its culture, see some key sights, and soak up the charm that makes Paris unforgettable. Whether exploring multiple countries or enjoying a quick European getaway, this guide and itinerary starter is designed to give you the best of Paris without the rush. Yes, even with just 24 hours in Paris.
We will start by determining which area (arrondissement) in Paris you want to stay and finding a hotel near the activities you want to experience during this quick stay. You will want to be within walking or metro distance from your key attractions. Yes, you’ll need tickets for some spots, but when it comes to food and drinks, let the day take you where it may—just like a true Parisian. Let’s dig in, and keep things simple.

The Key to an Effortless Trip to Paris: Your Mindset
The key is to have a plan, but not be afraid to miss out on anything or not to see it all. Especially if you have 2 days in France, you will not see it all. That’s okay. Pick one favorite highlight to see, a few other sights near you, one tour, and then eat and drink where it’s convenient. See our guide on the Top 10 Instagrammable Restaurants in Paris to get inspired. You will get all the good Paris vibes this way.
Don’t let all the build-up to visiting Paris and seeing it all stop you from actually experiencing and appreciating the things you do see. Prepare for walking and activity, get an eSIM for travel so you can access maps and tickets, etc. on your trip, but most importantly slow down and take in every stop. The Parisians think of all of the rushing as off-putting. So let’s try to fit in, n’est pas? We say this in a supportive way, of course.
Step 1: 2 Days in Paris — Pick an Arrondissement (Neighborhood)
Pick the Right Parisian Neighborhood/Arrondissement
Below is an overview of our recommended arrondissements for 2 days in Paris, along with the top attractions in that area. (Wikipedia has a simple map that will help ground you as well — the numbering sort of twists around like a snail.) Paris is divided into two halves by the Seine River: the Right Bank (Rive Droite) to the north, historically known for its elegance and commerce, and the Left Bank (Rive Gauche) to the south, often associated with artsy, intellectual vibes. Narrow your list to 1-2 arrondissements on either bank and then let’s select a hotel from there. You’ll want some of your favorite things to see to be near your hotel.
p.s. Underlined in each overview is the overarching unique quality of each place. You will find bits of each everywhere. Again, no worries, you’ll love wherever you go!
If you’re overwhelmed, our favorites to stay are the 5th, 6th, and 7th arrondissements. They have walkable attractions and are tourist-friendly. To us, the 5th and 6th arrondissements feel a little bit more local and the 7th just a bit more touristy. Those traveling with their families will likely find better floorplans in the 5th and 6th arrondissements.

There is no shortage of options for each day in Paris.
Step 2: 2 Days in Paris — Find a Hotel
Now that you’ve pinpointed your favorite arrondissements, it’s time to choose the perfect place to stay for your two days in Paris. Paris offers a seemingly endless number of hotel options on sites like Booking.com and Expedia, so we’ve curated a list of our favorite mid-range and boutique hotels in each neighborhood. And for those who prefer a little extra luxury, we have included some top-tier choices as well.
Book a Hotel
Finding the right hotel can set the tone for your Parisian adventure. While luxury hotels have their appeal, we love the charm of boutique hotels in Paris—they’re authentic, intimate, and quintessentially Parisian, often with just a couple of rooms on each floor and those lovely, cozy views. Since you’ll likely be out exploring most of the day, the location of your hotel is key.

Step 3: 2 Days in Paris — Determine Key Stops
Determine your Paris “Must-See”
If you have never been to Paris before, pick one of these two. If you have been to Paris before, then I’m betting you already know your must-see!
- Eiffel Tower – Pro: You’ll get the classic photos you’ve always wanted. Con: It’s a bit harder to get to, and feels a bit more like a tourist attraction due to the lines and security. Buy a tour or tickets in advance through the official site.
- Arc de Triomphe – Pro: You can see the Eiffel Tower and avoid some crowds. Con: It’s not the Eiffel Tower if you know what I mean. But if you have your eye set on the Champs-Élysées as well, then don’t miss the Arc de Triomphe since you can hit both of these sights together. Note, there is free access to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
If you were lucky enough to be in Paris with a Pass Jeux for the 2024 Paris Olympics, you got some quality pictures of the Eiffel Tower with the Olympic rings on top. The Parisian officials are working to keep the rings up longer than planned, which is great for upcoming trips and getting that Olympic picture of the tower.
Book a Paris Tour
You’ll want to make the most of your time with only 2 days in Paris, and a tour is a great way to do just that. It ensures you experience the highlights without the hassle of planning or getting lost in transportation logistics. Plus, a guided tour offers local insights that can enrich your experience.
You’ll see a tour block on day two of our itinerary. You’ll enjoy any of these options:
- Food tour – A food and walking tour will have you eating, making memories, and getting local knowledge along the way. Options include a Le Marais food tour or a Montmartre food tour. Choose your tour based on where you are staying.
- Classic car tour – Take a classic 2CV car tour, making stops at top Paris attractions and getting photo ops along the way. No kids with you? Take the evening version of the 2CV tour with champagne.
- Louvre tour – get a ticket only, a skip-the-line ticket, or plan a small group tour if you like smaller groups and a more intimate tour.
- Catacombs tour/visit – Book a special access tour or book directly from the Catacombs site. There is also a tour version that also includes a Seine River cruise with your ticket.

Step 4: 2 Days in Paris — Set Your Ideal Itinerary
The following itinerary is an example for you to build from for your two days in Paris. Use your “Must-Sees” and the chosen Arrondissement of your hotel to finalize the flexible spots in the itinerary. We mentioned it briefly above, but we believe you will find good food wherever you look. So don’t sweat dining plans unless you are a true foodie and have a specific restaurant in mind. Cafe dining is everywhere.
Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Central Paris
Morning: Arrival and Initial Exploration
- Arrival: Once you arrive in Paris, drop off your bags at your hotel.
- Visit a highlight near your hotel. Select something near/inside of your Arrondissement.
- Example for 6th Arrondissement: Sainte-Chapelle Church known for its stunning stained glass ceiling, and on the way to a walk to the La Marais area or The Louvre.
Lunch and Scenic Walk
- Lunch at a cafe or restaurant: Choose a photo-ready Parisian restaurant on your route to an afternoon activity. Whether this stop features the first cocktail of your trip, is up to you. Aperol spritz?
- Scenic Walk: After lunch, stroll along the Seine and cross an iconic bridge. We like the Pont Neuf bridge. Enjoy a leisurely walk by the Galerie Patrick Fourtin, the office location featured in “Emily in Paris.” It’s here.
Afternoon: The Louvre and Tuileries Garden
- The Louvre (or any highlight near your hotel): Head over to the Louvre to admire the iconic glass pyramids and the Mona Lisa. Enter the gardens even if you don’t get tickets. If you’re up for it, get a timed ticket in advance with a small group tour for a quieter experience inside.
- Jardin des Tuileries: Spend time wandering through the Tuileries Garden, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
Evening: Eiffel Tower and Trocadero
- Dinner Near the Hotel: You will be tired in the evening if it was a long travel day. Grab dinner somewhere convenient to your hotel.
- Public Transport to Pont d’Iéna Area: Take the metro to the Pont d’Iéna area, near the Eiffel Tower. Explore the Gardens of Trocadero, and get some picturesque views of the Eiffel Tower from the Pont d’Iéna bridge and Avenue de Camoens.
- Optional Visit to Aquarium de Paris: If you’re traveling with kids, consider stopping by the Aquarium de Paris (10am-7pm) located nearby.
Note: We did not make it to the evening plans and got tired. You may as well, so keep an open mind to not making it through the whole list on Day 1 of 24 hours in Paris.
Day 2: Eiffel Tower/Your “Must-See”, Tour, Montmartre, and More
Morning: Eiffel Tower and Surrounding Area
- Breakfast: Grab breakfast either at your hotel or a nearby café.
- Eiffel Tower Visit: Head to the Eiffel Tower for a morning visit. Ensure you have pre-booked tour or entry tickets to the 2nd floor to avoid long queues.
- Breezy Tip: We recommend saving time and money by just visiting the 2nd floor. The higher, 3rd floor involves another queue and a higher fee — you have wonderful enough views on floor 2. Especially if you have kids, floor 2 is just perfect.
- Substitute this stop for your “Must-See” pick, if it wasn’t the Eiffel Tower.
Afternoon: Lunch and Selected Tour
- Lunch on the Avenue de Suffren: After your Eiffel Tower visit, enjoy lunch anywhere on the Avenue de Suffren. This is walkable from the Eiffel Tower.
- Vintage Car Tour Option: Book a 2-hour tour in a vintage French car 2CV tour. Exploring lesser-known paths through the city, and be able to hop in and out at your leisure since it is your private tour. If you have 2 people use this company. If you have 4 people use this company.
Evening: Montmartre and/or Optional Activities
- Montmartre Visit: Take the metro to Montmartre. Ride the funicular up the hill to explore the artistic quarter. Treat yourself to hot chocolate at A Carette at the top.
- Dinner: Foodies, book Pink Mamma or Daroco: End your day with a delightful dinner. If you have a reservation, dine at Pink Mamma, or head to Daroco for a walk-in option. Non-foodies, turn into any cafe for dinner.
Optional Daytime/Evening Activities
- Eiffel Tower at Night: Consider returning to the Eiffel Tower to see it illuminated from Jardins du Trocadéro. The light show starts after dark and runs for 5 minutes, every hour on the hour.
- Arc de Triomphe Visit: Take the metro to a station near the Arc de Triomphe (buy tickets in advance) and enjoy the Eiffel Tower view from a different perspective. Night owls, this is open even after dark!
- Other Evening Options: Explore more of Paris with visits to The Paris Catacombs, see a show at the Moulin Rouge, shop at Le Marais, or find your way to the Galeries Lafayette rooftop for another breathtaking view of the city and the Eiffel Tower (for free).
