Best Way to Plan Your Vacation Based on Flight Schedules
Nonstop flights are not just a convenience, they are a strategic choice to maximize vacation time. Airlines regularly update their nonstop options as aircraft, staffing, and strategic objectives change. By finding and choosing nonstop flights, you cut down on travel time, reduce the stress of layovers, and ensure that you arrive at your destination ready to soak in every moment of your getaway. If you’re traveling with kids, nonstop flight options might be a mandatory flight filter for you!
Keeping an eye on new routes and nonstops opens up exciting destinations (and better deals) that were previously out of reach or required lengthy layovers. Many long-haul nonstop flights are seasonal and only offered during certain months or certain days of the week. Your awareness of these intricacies will help you plan and find the best price and schedule that works for you.

Focus your search on your home airport
Begin by setting your home airport and utilizing Google Flights or Skyscanner to see where nonstop flights go. Use a filter to set the number of stops to 0 or nonstop. There is significant simplicity and ease when flying nonstop – this could be the ticket to discovering your new favorite vacation spot with minimal hassle and maximum enjoyment.
This is one of the main reasons why Hilton Head is one of our family’s favorite destinations after the Savannah/Hilton Head Airport increased its air service and connectivity to the country.
Following major airlines on Instagram
We recommend you connect with your favorite airlines by following them on social media. Instagram emerges as the top choice when it comes to keeping up with the latest updates. In comparison, Twitter is more often utilized by airlines for real-time operational news, and Facebook isn’t as high of a priority for new-news sharing.
Instagram, however, offers a visually appealing platform where airlines showcase stunning destinations, travel inspiration, exclusive deals, and even unveil new destinations and flight schedules.

Keep your eye out for special promotions and consider flying with budget carriers that offer competitive prices — but don’t forget they may have additional fees on top of the base fare you see. Additionally, don’t forget to check out travel blogs like ours and sign up for newsletters, which provide valuable tips and updates on cheap flights. If you have heard of Scott’s Cheap Flights, it rebranded to Going and is another good place to start or subscribe to.
Don’t hesitate
Remember, the early bird catches the worm, so book your flights when you spot a great deal! If the airlines see overwhelming demand for a particular flight, they may increase the fare. The last seat sold on each flight is almost certainly not the cheapest! Happy travels and may you land the perfect getaway at an unbeatable price.
Rule of thumb — If you are looking for a long-haul flight, booking 6 months or more out is advisable. For short-haul flights, book at least 2-3 months out. Any closer in than this, you’re giving the airlines the chance to tweak pricing on remaining seats as they will then have a good idea if that flight will sell out or not. If they think they can sell the rest of the seats, then the price per remaining ticket will go up as they want that flight to go out making as much money as it can. This is general airline revenue management behavior.
